RETRIBUTION DENIED (AFRICA)

Retribution Denied, from Johannesburg, in early 1991 when four guys named Steve, Brad, James and Andre got together to jam in Brads garage on a Saturday morning. At first we played noisy, punky grindcore and used the name Yuppie Terrorist Pigeon Feederz. A lead guitarist joined the ranks (Paul). Early 1992 saw us sign to the local metal label Inhouse Records and adopt the more marketable name Retribution Denied. The new name as reflected a more serious approach and a more metal direction (but still retaining the brutality). A demo was recorded live in the Inhouse practice room called The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth featuring a mixture of old Y.T.P.F. stuff and new stuff. They went into Universal studios in Joburg and recorded 2 songs for the Inhouse compilation CD The Death of Africa. The songs Circus of Stupidity and The Corpse of Gaiae appeared. The full-length album we been promised never materialized. A year later we split from Inhouse to go it alone, but couldnt raise the money for a recording. Andre, left because of dissatisfaction and marital commitments. We recruited a new man, Greg, and continued with a mixture of material written by Andre, stuff by bassist Brad, and stuff by Lee. By the end of 1995 personal tensions and financial disagreements forced a split with drummer, James. His place was filled by Zether (known to all as Ray) who for the first time gave the band powerful double-bass drum rhythm we needed. We immediately went into B.. Studios in Boksburg, to record Death May Die and Covenant of the Flame, two Andre-era songs which appear as bonus tracks on the new CD (Songs f Soul and Psyche), originally released as a demo In the Beginning there was.
